GW Study Abroad Peer Advisors (SAPAs)

Become a Peer Advisor

The Office for Study Abroad is looking to build our new team of Study Abroad Peer Advisors (SAPAs). SAPAs are an integral part of the Office for Study Abroad (OSA) advising team and will assist the OSA in communicating vital information and resources to students hoping to study abroad. This position will provide you with professional skills that are transferrable to your future career. Through this position, you will be able to share your own experiences abroad and encourage more GW students to go abroad, contributing to GW’s international, intercultural community. 

SAPA Responsibilities:

Study Abroad Peer Advisors will be required to engage in the following activities during the academic year (Fall & Spring semesters):
  • Hold weekly office hours in the Office for Study Abroad Resource Room (minimum of 2 hours per week)
  • Organize and market ONE outreach event per month by your design or request of OSA; i.e. tabling, classroom visit, information session, etc...
  • Collaborate with other SAPAs to implement a creative project to benefit the study abroad community at GW (course-mapping, increasing diversity in study abroad, improving marketing resources within our office, etc.) as proposed by you/your team and approved by OSA. 
  • Assist with Office for Study Abroad events, including but not limited to Info Sessions, Pre-Departure Orientation, Re-entry programming

*Please note that the SAPA position is not a paid role in the office. The Office for Study Abroad works to provide SAPAs with other benefits and skills in exchange for their work with us.

SAPA Qualifications:

As an applicant for the Study Abroad Peer Advisor Program, you should:
  • Have studied abroad while at GW and will have completed your study abroad experience by August 2020.
  • Have competent public speaking and communications skills
  • Have the ability to fulfill time commitment (students must have time in their schedule to fulfill obligations) for the full 2020-2021 Academic Year. 
  • Interest in helping other prospective study abroad students through sharing study abroad policies and procedures, as well as sharing your own experiences.
