Event Description

Please join us for a virtual gathering to celebrate Reuben Brigety and his five years of distinguished service as dean of the Elliott School. He will begin his term as vice chancellor and president of the University of the South, Sewanee, in June, and will be departing the Elliott School on May 29. We will hear from faculty, students, alumni and guests, as we reflect on Dean Brigety's contributions to the school and toast his accomplishments.   

Ambassador Reuben E. Brigety II joined the Elliott School as dean in October 2015. During his tenure here, he established the Institute for African Studies and the Leadership, Ethics, and Practice Initiative, among other programs. He has welcomed heads of state – most notably French President Emmanuel Macron – and turned students on to Miles Davis and others through his Jazz with Dean B series. As he noted in late February to GW Today, “It has been a great honor for me to lead the Elliott School these last five years. Our dynamic community of students, faculty, staff and alumni is among the brightest in the world, and I am confident the school will continue on its strong trajectory moving forward as we remain true to our mission of building leaders for the world.”

Whether or not you can join us, we also invite you to share your memories and well wishes for the dean. There will not be an "open share" opportunity for attendees during the virtual event.
