2019 Graduate Student Symposium: Development, Humanitarianism, and Security in the Middle East
The Middle East has long been the target of various development, humanitarian and security interventions initiated by internal and external actors. Although such interventions have often failed to achieve their goals, these failures have shaped and will continue to shape the avenues and aspirations of peoples, NGOs, private organizations, and governments. Within this context, the Institute for Middle East Studies is excited to host this one-day multidisciplinary symposium to consider and discuss how the region’s long history with such interventions affects the contemporary Middle East and influences aspirations for future changes.
