The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a final rule to repeal the September 2019 Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule which allowed for the preemption of state and local laws related to fuel economy standards. Effective January 28.
The Environmental Protection Agency issued a final rule to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from light-duty vehicles in model year 2023 and beyond. Effective February 28.
The Dept. of Homeland Security delayed the effective date for a December 2020 rule regarding the “danger to the security of the United States” standard in the statutory bar to eligibility for asylum until December 31, 2022. This is the third delay of the original rule.
The EPA issued a final rule that "requires certain public water systems to collect national occurrence data for 29 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lithium." EPA will also hold several related public meetings. Effective January 26.
