President Biden issued a Determination that "an amount not to exceed $500 million from the U.S. Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund" be used for "the purpose of meeting unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs of refugees, victims of conflict, and other persons at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan."
The National Institute of Standards & Technology has extended the comment period on a request for information to help guide the development of the agency's AI RMF. Comments due September 15.
The Federal Communications Commission issued a final rule modifying the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program, pursuant to changes in the Congressional Appropriations Act of 2021, effective October 22. The FCC also issued a related proposed rule with comments due September 20.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency issued a proposed rule on the housing goals for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for 2022 through 2024. Comments due October 25.
The Dept. of Homeland Security and the Executive Office for Immigration Review issued a notice of proposed rulemaking that would "amend the regulations governing the determination of certain protection claims raised by individuals subject to expedited removal and found to have a credible fear of persecution or torture." Comments due October 19.
The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking on the agency's process for determining the likelihood of an immigrant becoming a "public charge" in the future. The agency will host listening sessions on September 14 and October 5, with comments due October 22.
The Dept. of Energy issued a notice of proposed rulemaking to reinstate a January 2017 final rule defining lamps which was withdrawn in September 2019. DOE will host a public meeting on September 30, and comments are due October 18.
